Description
This is a compact and high quality automatic voltage regulator. It needs to be installed inside the alternator or generator so that the cover can provide I20 minimum total protection. The alternator with Shunt excitation is self excited with the R220 automatic voltage regulator. The regulator monitors the exciter excitation current as a function of the alternator output voltage. The AVR has been designed to protect equipment from overheating damage that can occur when there are fluctuations in voltage. Fluctuations in voltage are unavoidable and electronic equipment is particularly sensitive to voltage surges. The voltage on any distribution line will vary through the day as large consumers of power switch machines on and off. The damage done to equipment is not limited to cost of replacement but also production loss and increased scrap and rework costs.

Potentiometer for adjustment of voltage settings
Potentiometer for stability settings
Benefits of using the R220 Leroy-Somer Automatic Voltage Regulator
One of the benefits of an automatic voltage regulator is independent phase regulation which provides better phase to phase voltage level balance. Large difference in voltage levels from phase to phase can cause premature failure of electrical devices due to overheating or vibration. The modern AVR uses solid state devices and is far superior to the older electromechanical systems. The response rate is rapid and adjustments take place almost instantly. Remember to treat the unit as live during installation and take appropriate measures to avoid injury to the installer. Check that all connections have been made properly to ensure the correct operation of the unit. Settings are done in the factory and only once the unit is installed should adjustments be made using the potentiometers.
