KMP Valve Spring T417713
Reconditioning a head? The KMP Brand T417713 valve spring is part of the valve gear that controls when air and exhaust gas move through the engine.
About this part
Valves, seats, guides, springs and seals work as one system. A worn guide lets the valve wobble and burn its seat, and a tired spring lets the valve float at speed, so these parts are usually renewed together during a head overhaul.
When to replace it
- Blue smoke on start-up from worn stem seals or guides
- Low compression on one or more cylinders
- Burnt or pitted valve faces and seats
- Weak or broken valve springs found on inspection
Before you order
Fit new stem seals whenever the valves come out; they are inexpensive and are the most common source of oil smoke from the head.
Match the number stamped on the part you are removing, or the number in your engine or alternator manual, before ordering. Part numbers are shown for reference so the right replacement can be identified.
Questions
Should I replace all the valves or just the damaged one?
On a generator engine that runs long hours, most workshops replace the full set of the affected type so the head wears evenly afterwards.
