About this part

Standby generators often sit with fuel in the tank for months. Water and sediment settle out, and the fuel system parts are what stop them reaching the injectors.

When to replace it

  • Hard starting or the engine stalling under load
  • Water in the separator bowl
  • Fuel leaking or weeping at the injectors
  • Service interval reached

Before you order

Bleed the fuel system after replacing any part in it, and keep a spare filter with the generator so a blocked filter does not stop a standby run.

Not sure it is the right one? A photo of the old part and the nameplate of the machine it came off is usually all the counter needs to confirm a match.

Questions

How often should a fuel filter be changed?

Follow the engine maker's service interval. On a standby set that runs few hours, change it at least once a year because fuel ages even when the engine does not run.
