LSA 46.2GP Alternative Leroy-Somer Diode Kit
LSA 46.2GP is a alternative leroy-somer diode kit for the rotating rectifier in brushless generator alternators.
About this part
In a brushless alternator the exciter produces AC on the rotor, and a set of diodes turns it into DC for the main field. A varistor across the bridge absorbs voltage spikes that would otherwise destroy the diodes.
When to replace it
- Low output voltage with the AVR at full excitation
- AVR failing repeatedly
- A shorted or open diode found on testing
- Burnt varistor after a surge
Before you order
Observe diode polarity (forward and reverse types) when fitting, and torque the terminals to avoid hot joints.
Match the number stamped on the part you are removing, or the number in your engine or alternator manual, before ordering. Part numbers are shown for reference so the right replacement can be identified.
Questions
How do I test a rotating diode?
Disconnect it and check it with a multimeter on diode test: it should conduct in one direction only. Replace any that read short or open both ways.
